MINDEN – Makeshift stands and makeshift pink and purple port-a-potties provided a respite for the 3,000-plus fans packed into “The Pit” on Friday night to watch the game of the century between the hometown Crimson Tide and the Benton Tigers.

But there was nothing makeshift about the way the Tide finished out the battle of unbeatens with a resounding 42-28 victory that gave the hosts the upper hand, this week at least, in the District 1-4A race.

And there was nothing makeshift about breakout superstar Patrick Heard, who electrified the Tide faithful for a second consecutive game with runs that looked like he was shot out of a cannon.
